Amidst his ongoing legal battles, former President Donald Trump has consistently targeted prominent Black women in legal and political

New York Attorney General Letitia James stands out among several prominent Black women who have become subjects of intense public scrutiny and criticism from former President Donald Trump, often in the context of legal and political challenges.
James, the first Black woman to hold statewide office in New York, initiated a comprehensive civil fraud lawsuit against Trump, his family, and his business organization. The lawsuit alleged that Trump and his associates engaged in years of inflating asset values to secure more favorable loans and insurance terms. In February 2024, a New York judge ruled in favor of James’s office, ordering Trump to pay significant penalties and restricting his business activities in the state.
Throughout the legal proceedings, Trump consistently attacked James, describing the lawsuit as politically motivated. He frequently used social media and public rallies to castigate her and her office.
“Letitia James is a radical Democrat, a horrible person, and a totally corrupt Attorney General. She is a disgrace to the legal profession and to the great State of New York. This Witch Hunt is an embarrassment to our justice system!” Trump stated in a social media post at one point during the trial.
James, for her part, maintained that her office’s actions were based purely on the facts and the law, asserting her commitment to equal application of justice.
“No one is above the law. We will continue to ensure that everyone plays by the same rules, no matter how powerful or wealthy they may be,” James has frequently stated in response to criticisms.
Beyond James, other Black women in powerful legal positions have also drawn Trump’s ire. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis in Georgia is another notable figure. Willis is leading the criminal investigation and prosecution against Trump and several co-defendants related to their alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia.
Trump has similarly launched vigorous attacks against Willis, accusing her of political motivations and prosecutorial misconduct, particularly concerning her personal conduct, which became the subject of a legal challenge to remove her from the case.
“This is a totally corrupt and conflicted District Attorney. This Witch Hunt is an absolute disgrace to our country,” Trump said of Willis during a campaign event.
The interactions with both James and Willis highlight a pattern of confrontation between the former president and female Black prosecutors overseeing significant legal challenges against him. These legal battles have unfolded amidst highly charged political environments, drawing national attention to the roles of these women in the American legal and political landscape.
