Michael Thompson, 35, of Bushwick, Brooklyn, was taken into custody on Tuesday evening and subsequently charged with murder and assault. The victim, identified as Arthur Jenkins, 64, also of Brooklyn, was found unconscious at the DeKalb Avenue subway station in downtown Brooklyn following an apparent altercation on Monday, October 6.
According to preliminary police reports, Mr. Jenkins was discovered by passersby on the platform around 10:30 p.m. with severe head trauma. Emergency medical services transported him to NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning.
Detectives utilized surveillance footage from the subway station and witness accounts to identify Mr. Thompson as a suspect. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation, though initial reports suggest a verbal dispute may have escalated into physical violence.
