Jenkins will now represent the district in the U.S. House of Representatives, filling the vacancy left by the recent retirement of the former incumbent.
The Associated Press called the race for Jenkins shortly after midnight, as vote totals showed her maintaining a significant lead over her Democratic challenger, Mark Thompson. With 98% of precincts reporting, Jenkins garnered approximately 62% of the vote, while Thompson received around 35%. Minor party and independent candidates accounted for the remaining percentages.
