Federal health authorities are investigating a multi-state outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes infections that may be linked to frozen meal products sold at Trader Joe’s and Walmart. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have initiated probes into the potential contamination source, advising consumers to exercise caution.
The outbreak has reportedly affected a number of individuals across several states, with multiple hospitalizations confirmed. While the full scope of the outbreak is still under investigation, preliminary findings suggest a common link to certain frozen prepared meals.
Among the products under scrutiny is Trader Joe’s brand frozen Fettuccine Alfredo, explicitly mentioned in early reports. Pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, but listeriosis can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, or life-threatening infection of the newborn.
