BEDFORD, N.H. — Authorities in New Hampshire have announced that a man has been charged following a fatal shooting that occurred on Thursday at a country club in Bedford. The incident resulted in the death of one individual.
Arthur Thompson, 55, of Bedford, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting. The victim has been identified as Robert Maxwell, 62, also of Bedford.
According to a statement released by the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office and the Bedford Police Department, officers responded to the Oakhaven Country Club on Thursday afternoon after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, emergency personnel located Mr. Maxwell, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
Mr. Thompson was taken into custody shortly after the incident. The specific circumstances leading up to the shooting have not yet been fully disclosed, as the investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities have not publicly commented on a potential motive at this stage.
New Hampshire Senior Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Strelzin addressed the media, emphasizing the continued dedication to the case.
“This is a tragic incident for the community, and our thoughts are with the victim’s family,” Mr. Strelzin stated. “Our investigative team, including the State Police and Bedford Police, is working diligently to gather all facts and ensure justice is served. We will release further details as they become available and appropriate.”
Mr. Thompson is expected to be arraigned in Hillsborough Superior Court – Northern District on Friday. The New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit is assisting the Bedford Police Department with the investigation.
Officials have indicated that they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public related to this incident. The Oakhaven Country Club has not yet released a public statement regarding the shooting.
