The nominations for the 77th annual Emmy Awards, unveiled this morning, have seen Apple TV+’s critically acclaimed drama ‘Severance’ and HBO’s highly anticipated limited series ‘The Penguin’ emerge as the dominant contenders, securing the most nods across various categories.
‘Severance’, a dystopian workplace thriller, garnered an impressive 18 nominations, solidifying its position as a favorite in the drama categories. The series, lauded for its intricate plot, unique visual style, and stellar performances, is expected to be a strong contender for Outstanding Drama Series. Its nominations extend to acting categories, with Adam Scott, Patricia Arquette, John Turturro, and Britt Lower all receiving recognition for their roles. Meanwhile, Max’s ‘The Penguin’, a spin-off from Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” focusing on Colin Farrell’s titular character, made a significant splash in the limited series category, securing 16 nominations. The gritty crime drama was lauded for its cinematic scope, dark tone, and especially Colin Farrell’s transformative performance, which earned him a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.
The series is also a strong contender for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, alongside nominations for its supporting cast, directing, writing, and technical categories such as cinematography and production design.
